Business Studies
Welcome to the Business Studies department part of the ICT, Business and Technology Faculty.
Business Studies is fast becoming one of the most popular subjects within the Academy. This can be credited to the creative and innovative teaching and learning that students experience every day within the department. This department aspires to develop entrepreneurial skills in every student and expand their business minds to embed the essential knowledge and skills to become successful within the business world.

Business Studies students can experience the teaching and learning within one of the well-equipped ICT suites within the Academy. We have an outstanding bank of teaching resources to meet the needs of our learners. We have established links with many businesses within the community who strive to support our business students.

Curriculum
Key Stage 4
The Business Studies department offers students the opportunity to study the OCR National Level 2 qualification. Students can opt to study for the certificate award which is equivalent to two GSCEs. We also offer students the opportunity to develop their business knowledge even further through the Diploma award which is equivalent to 4 GCSEs. This course has been developed to recognise learners’ skills, knowledge and understanding of business functions, environments and operations. Students carry out a range of tasks that have been designed to recognise their achievements in a modern, practical way that is relevant to the workplace.
BTEC First in Business and Retail
The Business Studies department has introduced an exciting new course which further personalises the business studies learning pathways offered to students. The course is designed to give students the basic business knowledge required and enhance this knowledge through the specialism of Retail.

Key Stage 5
A-Level students have the opportunity to study OCR National Level 3 in Business Studies. This course is designed to develop students in the following areas:
- Researching skills
- Expansion of business knowledge, understanding and application
- Investigative skills
- Organisational skills
The department continues to develop business links in order for all students to have the opportunity to experience business in a real life context. This allows students to apply their knowledge and understanding they have gained from the course to develop their own entrepreneurial skills.
