Welcome to the Design & Technology department, part of the ICT, Business & Technology Faculty. Our aim is to provide quality teaching and learning to all our students to ensure they are given the best possible experience in our subject.

Curriculum

Key Stage 3

Our KS3 curriculum offers our students the chance to design and manufacture quality products using up-to-date materials, tools and equipment. Throughout years 7 and 8 students are given the opportunity to cover the different specialist areas;

Key Stage 4

Students use their experience at KS3 to choose the opportunity to further their Design and Technology education. Some courses that will be offered include:

GCSE Textiles

GCSE Food Technology

GCSE Resistant Materials

As a department the GCSE results which our students have achieved are improving year on year. The latest of which can be seen below:

Key Stage 5

The department offers many personalised opportunities for Design and Technology at KS5. We currently offer OCR Product Design at AS and A2 level  as well as AQA AS and A2 level Textiles.

Resources

The department benefits from a dedicated computer suite with specialist software. We also have many CAD/CAM machines including laser cutters, vinyl cutters, a micro router and a Triac CNC machine. The department has a fully functional catering kitchen and dining area for food technology and in textiles we have a number of sewing machines and a dye-sublimation printer.
