LIFE
LIFE at Outwood Academy Adwick covers student’s statutory rights for discrete PSHEe, Citizenship, and work related education.
It is taught during NG to year 7, on rotation to year 9 and given one lesson a week in years 8, 10 and 11. In the course of these lessons, students study areas such as finance, politics, difference and diversity, relationships and sex education, drugs tobacco and alcohol education, rights and responsibilities, healthy life styles and management of risk among other real life issues.
To further enhance teaching many outside speakers are invited in to give presentations about banking and finance, road safety and fire safety.
All students recieve 4hrs of Basic First Aid Training and recieve a certificate from the Red Cross.
During year 8 and year 11 all students recieve up to date IAG to aid them in planning their career pathway. Connexions staff are involved in all these lessons, to ensure students are making the right choices to enhance their future prospects.
Immersion days also provide students with other opportunities to explore ‘How to become an active citizen’ and ‘What is Health’.
All lessons incorporate the latest teaching methods, are highly interactive and lively giving students the opportunity to voice their opinions.
The subject covers many of the SEAL outcomes and is very much related to the Learning model for the Academy, empowering students to develop the necessary skills and qualities needed for everyday life.
