Internationalism

The Academy believes every young person should have the awareness, skills and understanding they need to interact effectively within a global community and to gain the respect and admiration of other cultures. In order to facilitate this, the academy has a number of exciting initiatives:

  • International themed Vertical Mentor Groups. These are named after a country within a continent and students are ambassadors for that country;
  • The International Experience Pledge. This enables students to participate in an international activity. This could be within the UK by forging links with schools around the globe and working with international visitors to the Outwood Family of schools, or through an educational or cultural visit overseas;
  • The International Club. Students work on collaborative initiatives with schools from other countries to promote global awareness and enhance an understanding of the rich diversity of modern multicultural Britain;
  • A target of strong links with schools from 15 different countries by the end of 2010. This is via e-twinning with schools across Europe and a “Connecting Classrooms” project with Sri Lanka & India around a sport and leadership theme.
