Christmas Market

Students and local community members turned out in force to support the Academy’s first ever Christmas market. With a host of professional stalls as well as high quality items created by students, it was a perfect opportunity for some Christmas shopping. Stall holders on the day commented on the professionalism of organisation and the attitude and helpfulness of student volunteers. Many where keen to book ahead for next year’s event.

With the Community Room transformed into an illuminated Winter Wonderland, a visit to Santa proved a magical memory in the making for many families and guests. The team of elves up in the photo suite were a formidable production line!

The huge success of the day was topped by the amount raised for the Nelson Mandela’s Children’s Hospital; £1549.69.

We are already busy planning next year’s festivities, with the possibility of extending to 40 stalls.

Stalls included items made by year 8 students on their Deep Learning Day and festive outside stalls including chocolate treats, Christmas cards and decorations, novelty lollypops and much more.

Adwick Christmas Market

What a huge success the Adwick Christmas Market was on Saturday? This is now set to become an annual event here in the Academy, building on the success of this year.

Despite the cold and rainy weather, over 350 people came to the market and they were not disappointed. Christmas presents were brought from a range of stall and the Academy choir, “Love to Sing” provided the festive singing.

Santa was kept very busy all day and so were his Little Helpers. It was altogether a brilliant day and although we have not added up the final amount of money raised, I am sure we will have gone beyond the £1,000 target we set to go to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Fund.

A massive thank you to all the staff and students who worked so hard to make this happen.

“Countdown to Christmas”

this week sees the start of the “Countdown to Christmas” here at Outwood Academy Adwick.

From Thursday 1st December we start our big attendance promotion, “In To Win”. Each day throughout December there will be a prize draw for all those who have full attendance that day and are on time to the Academy. Each day one lucky student will win a family prize and this will build up to our Grand Final Draw on the final day of term, Friday 16th December when on really lucky student will bring home an amazing Family Entertainment Package including 43″ Plasma Screen, Wii and Camcorder! To ensure your name is in this Grand Finale Draw make sure you are in the Academy everyday in December and on time.

We are also really excited about our first ever Christmas Market to be held here on Saturday 3rd December 10am-4pm. As well as a range of stalls from which you can buy amazing Christmas presents, the Academy choir, “Love To Sing” will also be performing, and of course, Santa will be here in his grotto!

New York Trip

At October half term 2011 a group of our year 9 and 10 students enjoyed an experience which will stay with them for the rest of their lives. On 22^nd October 2011 16 tired students flew out of Heathrow to arrive at the Big Apple after travelling through the night from Doncaster for their flight to JFK in their black Outwood Academy hooded jumpers. Once arrived in New York students spent the next 4 days experiencing as many delights as they could fit in. Examples of this included a Broadway show, Ground Zero, Statue of Liberty, The Empire State Building and many more. The complete contrast of life of what the students experienced is probably what will stay with them the most. The hoards of people, the history and the transport were the most surprising for the students. Overall, staff and students felt the trip was truly successful and will plans are already afoot for the 4^th consecutive NYC trip.

Welcome back after half term

Welcome to everyone after the half-term break I hope you all had a great week.

This is the half-term that seems to fly by even faster than usual as we run up to Christmas.

Before we start our countdown to Christmas though in December we’ve got all that November will bring!

Our November will I’m sure start with a bang…. and it’s not fireworks I’m talking about but the amazing performance of our students in the November exams. Year 11 students have been working so hard, particularly in Maths and I’m sure this will pay off in a few weeks time.

Don’t forget “Outwood’s Got Talent” on November 4th 6pm.

New Term

It’s great to be back after the summer break and I hope everyone managed to spend some quality time with friends and family.

So delighted with our brilliant exam results – the best ever at both A level and GCSE!

As well as welcoming back everyone to the Academy I want to wish allthe very best to our brilliant Year 13 students who will be starting their university courses and careers

Art Exhibition

Tuesday 28th June saw the BTEC Level 2 Art students installing their own exhibition within the art classroom. Students displayed their best artwork including paintings from a visiting artists’ workshop, 3D hats as well as paintings, drawings and prints.

Y11 Prom

What a fantastic night the Year 11 Prom was! It was so lovely to see the girls looking absolutely stunning in their marvellous dresses and the boys looking very handsome in their stylish suits.

It was a brilliant evening – speeches, presentation, music, food and dancing. My favourite bit was the round of applause and cheering in appreciation of the amazing Year 11 Learning Manager – what a star!

Busy week or so ahead but some great things to celebrate. Firstly, there’s the celebration event for the Public Services group tomorrow night. The event is taking place at the Mansion House and we are celebrating the huge success of our Public Services Sixth Form Course, in particular our partnership with the Police, Fire Service and Local Authority.

Then the big one on Thursday – the Year 11 Prom at Rogerthorpe Manor. Can’t wait to see all the amazing dresses!
