Student Voice and Peer Mentoring
We have a large amount of Student Voice roles which our students can volunteer for. By getting involved, they can gain new skills, enjoy new experiences and make a difference to the Academy’s community. We are very proud that our Student Voice activities have been recognised and awarded by the Speaker of the House of Commons in 2011 and 2012 and we aim to keep building on this strong tradition even further.

Peer Mentors
We have a large and well established Peer Mentor programme and we currently have more than a hundred trained volunteers who offer regular support to younger students. The traditional Peer Mentors work with students for a variety of reasons to help them to make the most of their time in the academy and achieve more.
We also have specialised Literacy and Numeracy Peer Mentors who support Year 7 students through a well structured programme designed to improve their knowledge and confidence in these areas.
Reading Peer Mentors help younger students with their reading and their understanding of more difficult words.
Restore anti-bullying Peer Mentors are part of the Academy’s anti-bullying policy and are specifically trained mediation techniques. They work with the alleged bullies and alleged victims to resolve their differences and agree strategies to avoid further conflict.
Some of our Peer Mentors have recently volunteered to take part in a pilot project to work with students from a local primary school. They are helping them to improve their literacy and numeracy skills as well as preparing them for the move to secondary education. We are hoping the scheme will spread to other local schools in the future.
Tour Guides
Students are given the responsibility of being ambassadors for the Academy as they show our visitors and guests around the site, highlighting the opportunities that all our students are given.

Peer Educators
Sixth Form students who are gifted in a particular subject use their free lessons to support teachers and help their fellow students to learn. By doing this they can develop new skills themselves while enhancing the learning opportunities of others.
Academy representatives in the Doncaster Youth Council
Two of our students are members of the Doncaster Youth Council. Loren Rushton is the Doncaster North representative and Cara Steele is the Academy’s link worker. They regularly take part in borough wide meetings to represent the Academy’s students and keep them Academy’s students informed about matters of local importance.
Primary Leaders
Students from the Academy take the lead role in activities when primary school students visit us as part of their transition programme. They act as role models, show them the opportunities that they will have and help allay any fears about the move.
