• In October, Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change visited the academy to hear how the students of the academy are contributing to sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint.

• The Academy’s International Club has conducted extensive research about Cape Town. Following a successful presentation to the Academy’s SLT, the club are now planning a cultural and educational visit to Cape Town to develop international links with students of their own age.

• During February half term, the History Department paid their annual pilgrimage to the First World War battlefields of Belgium and northern France. After conducting extensive research for GCSE and A level coursework, they participated in several wreath laying ceremonies on behalf of all the Outwood Academy community, one at the Menin Gate in Ypres.

• Bobby Ziyaei of year 10 won a 6 day team building visit to Italy for his impressive presentation to the South Yorkshire Police’s Inspiring Youth Conference at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium in February. Out of over 300 hundred inspiring young people who attended, Bobby was one of six chosen to go to Italy. Well done Bobby!
